parent volunteers needed for Chinese Pictorial Book Corner (绘本馆) in the sch library
Chinese Pictorial Book Corner of NYPS has finally finished its STOCK-TAKING!
From next week onwards, all Parent Volunteers of CL pictorial book corner and teachers of NYPS are allowed to borrow the pictorial books out of the library. We have about 1000 Pictorial Books in the library and another 300 new books coming in 2 weeks later. We always update the corner with new books freshly imported in from countries such as China and Taiwan.
*NOTE: Only Parents who are helping out at the Pictorial Book Corner are allowed to borrow the books out of the library.
The pupils are still unable to borrow the books out of the library as the books are still relatively new and expensive. We may look into the probability of enabling the pupils to borrow these books out of the library from next year onwards when we managed to find parent volunteers who can help out with the administrative work.
Currently, we need 1-2 Parent Volunteer who can help us facilitate the borrowing and returning of CL Pictorial books in and out of the library. With your help, the pupils can therefore borrow and return the books in and out of the library.
Although we have a librarian in the library, she is unable to help out as her job scope does not require her to handle matters of the CL Pictorial Book Corner. The books from the CL Pictorial Book Corner are also not recorded into the library system.
Therefore, we would like to appeal for Parent Volunteers who are willing to help out as a librarian of the library, and facilitate the borrowing and returning of Pictorial Books. Your job is to help take down names and contact numbers of those who came to borrow/return Pictorial Books and remind them of the date of return. Also, you may have to track down those who have forgotten to return the books before the deadline.
Working time is flexible. You may report to the library at 8.30am and leave at 12pm sharp from Monday-Friday. If we manage to find more parent volunteers, we may look into staggering your schedule so that you may not have to report to the library 5 days a week.
There is no requirement for you to speak fluent mandarin.
If you are interested to be part of us, please kindly email me at lim_ke_xin@nyps.edu.sg or call me in school to find out more. You may also go to CL Pictorial Blog: http://www.nypshbg.blogspot.com/ to find out more.
Looking forward to your kind support :)
Cheers,

To Nanyang With Love - Art Exhibition
Other than having art work for sale at the exhibition, there is also a ‘Birthday Calendar’ available for sale at $50 each. This calendar is not a conventional time-bound calendar. It is one that allows you or your child to note down the birthdays of loved ones. The calendar is filled with lovely graphics and contains pictures of artworks painstakingly created by pupils and teachers of Nanyang Primary school as well as by the Nanyang Schools Alumni Association. As such, this calendar will serve as a precious momento for your child, even after he/she leaves the school.
Below are pictures to provide you with a glimpse of what this ‘Birthday Calendar’ looks like. We really hope you can support us in this fund raising art event by purchasing a copy of the calendar.
To show your support, just fill up the Order Form which will be given together with a letter by tomorrow. Payments to be made by cheque made payable to 'Nanyang Primary School'. Generous donations above the listed price of $50 is most appreciated and we really thank you for your support!

By now, you would have received the introductory letter from your child’s form teacher with regard to classroom matters and expectations. Please feel free to contact the teachers to understand your child’s progress throughout this year.
In this entry, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some upcoming activities that your child may engage in term 1. For future updates on activities for each term, I will be uploading the information onto “E-memo”, which can be found on our school website. Access to “E-memo” requires your child's birth certificate numbers and password. Do hope you can visit our website frequently for the latest update on activities that will take place each term. I will also be updating this blog as and when necessary.
Below are some upcoming activities for term 1:
1) Chinese New Year Visit
Every year, the Primary 3 pupils will go and visit our neighbours and offer them oranges. This is a friendly gesture on our part to foster better ties with our neighbours. On top of that, pupils will also learn to appreciate their neighbours.
2) Enriched Curriculum for PE
The Primary 3 pupils will go through an enriched curriculum as part of their PE lesson. By the end of the semester, pupils will have gone through a term of swimming and another term learning to play a racket game.
3) Chinese New Year Holiday
In view of the excellent PSLE results in 2009, our school has declared 17th February a school holiday.
I hope the above information will be useful to you. Please feel free to contact me at mohammad_sharil_b_hassanan@nyps.edu.sg or any of the teachers should you have further queries.
We look forward to your continuous support and partnership in educating your child.
Wishing you a happy and blessed 2010!
Mr Mohammad
